A brief history of the Kiwanis Club of Bullhead City, Morning

The history of the Kiwanis Club of Bullhead City, Morning, got its beginning in 1994 when this club was first chartered.  But its history cannot be fully told without going back before then.

The very first Kiwanis Club in Bullhead City was the Kiwanis Club of the Colorado River which was chartered in 1976.  This club devoted most of their initial efforts on successfully building what is now the building known as the Boys & Girls Club.

Up until around 1985, they met every Tuesday morning at Jerry's Restaurant, which is now the Black Bear diner.  Membership in the early 1980's usually consisted of about 10 members showing up for a breakfast meeting.  At the time, Gary Keith, a local State Farm Insurance agent, was the president and he believed that membership would increase if the club switched to a noon luncheon, which he ultimately made happen.  Some of those members who couldn't make noon meetings unhappily had to leave, but the President's decision was a good one, as the club thrived over the course of many years and at one time had over 60 members.

But in 1993, some of their members expressed a desire to once again meet in the mornings. So the word went out that an organizational meeting led by insurance agent Bill Aston was being held at the Gretchen's Inn which at the time included a restaurant.  About 15 to 20 people attended that meeting and the decision was made to proceed with forming a new morning club.  So in February of 1994, more than twenty individuals signed on as Charter members of the "Kiwanis Club in Bullhead City, Morning" and before the year was out, the club grew to over 35 members.

Over the course of the past 27 years, the Morning Kiwanis Club has proudly served the children of the world and our community.  This club has helped to nurture several members into leadership positions, with its members serving as Kiwanis Lieutenant Governors, and three city mayors, and four city councilmen.
